Setting Yourself Free Without Betrayal: Cutting the Ties That Hold Us Back
Setting yourself free without betrayal: cutting the ties that hold us back
There is a stubborn myth:
The one that says, to be a “good person,” you must always stay faithful to what was handed down to you.
To what is expected of you.
To your “place” in the family, the circle, society.
And yet…
This is not selfishness. It is a form of love.
What I want to speak of today is not about rejecting our loved ones, nor about burning bridges — there is no judgement here, only an observation.
It is about freeing ourselves from the invisible beliefs that keep us from being fully ourselves. Those beliefs, those ready-made phrases that tumble down from generation to generation…
The ones we absorbed very young, most often unconsciously.
The ones that say:
- “Be good, discreet, polite”
- “Don’t laugh too loud”
- “What will people think of you”
- “Go into finance, it pays well”
- “Being an artist isn’t a real job”
The weight of other people’s eyes
For a long time, I lived with the weight of other people’s eyes.
That gaze which is not always hostile, but which watches, which waits, which barely judges — yet just enough to hold you back. That, at least, was how I felt!
I did not really dare:
To speak.
To create.
To be visible.
I thought:
“What if they find me ridiculous? Too out there??”
“What if it isn’t liked?”
“What if I disappoint?”
What changed: my voice
One day, I began to speak.
To tell a little of what I had lived.
To say what I was carrying.
What I was going through.
And there, something magical happened.
I received messages of love, of resonance, of support.
From my clients. From my friends. Sometimes even from those I had thought silent.
That is when I understood:
What I thought I had to hide was, in truth, what connected me to others.
To free yourself is to choose yourself
Today, I believe that cutting certain ties is not a betrayal.
It is making room.
It is undoing the mental knots we accepted for far too long.
It is choosing to reveal oneself, not against others, but for oneself.
And that is precisely what I have placed within Celeste.
Creating differently
I create today with what I understood along the way. With one intention: to offer a space to the women who choose themselves.
What I would like to tell you
If you feel that certain gazes freeze you,
if you still hear voices from the past in your head,
if you hesitate to dare simply to be yourself…
Begin by cutting a single thread.
Just one.
Gently. Consciously.
And see what grows in its place.
With heart,
Maeva
